Somerset Premier
Imperial 28, Burnham-on-Sea 22

BURNHAM-ON-SEA were left frustrated after they let a half-time lead slip against Imperial on Saturday.

The hosts started on top and, after the sides traded penalties, caught Burnham unawares with a quick tap and go penalty which led to the first try of the afternoon.

The visitors came back into the game and scored three nicely worked tries to edge ahead by half-time.

The first was scored by Birkan Gunduz after an impressive catch and drive from a lineout, then Ryan Beard sped down the wing for the second before Stefan Pierce touched down after another impressive maul.

Piper converted two of the three tries and Burnham led 22-13 at the break, but Imperial made the advantage of playing with the slope count in the second half.

A converted try early after the restart reduced the deficit and the hosts went ahead with a penalty before a late unconverted try sealed the victory.

Burnham skipper Ross McKechan said: “It was frustrating as there was nothing really between the sides.

“It was a good battle all afternoon and I am pleased with how we fronted up.”

Burnham have a rare Friday night game this weekend - a good crowd is expected for the visit of Weston-super-Mare 2nds (7.30pm).
