JACK Leach took the final wicket as England claimed their first overseas series win since 2016, beating Sri Lanka by 57 runs in the second Test.

The hosts started day five in Pallekele on 226-7, needing 75 more for victory, and added 14 in 28 balls.

But Moeen Ali had Niroshan Dickwella (35) caught by Ben Stokes, and he then bowled Suranga Lakmal two balls later for a duck.

Somerset spinner Leach wrapped it up, as Malinda Pushpakumara chipped back to him for a caught and bowled.

That left Sri Lanka all out for 243, and gave Leach (5-83) his maiden Test five-wicket haul.

England lead the three-match series 2-0, with the final Test in Colombo starting on Friday (from 4.30am UK time.

This is England's first series win in Sri Lanka since 2001, and the match saw 38 wickets fall to spinners - a record in Test cricket.
