Somerset Premier Cup

Clevedon Town 3, Bridgwater Town 1

BRIDGWATER Town had two players sent off, including star striker Jack Taylor, as they exited the Somerset Premier Cup at Clevedon Town on Wednesday night.

Taylor's second half dismissal for two cautions followed Jake Llewellyn's 32nd minute straight red - a decision which "completely changed the game", according to Robins player-manager Dave Pearse.

It was 1-1 at the time of Llewellyn's dismissal after two goals in the space of three minutes. Ian Bellinger's 27th-minute free-kick had given Bridgwater the lead, only for Clevedon to hit straight back with an equaliser from the spot.

Bridgwater's 10 men made it to half-time all square but the hosts took the lead on 56 minutes through Danny Lock.

Lucas Vowles sealed the tie by adding a third with 20 minutes left on the clock, and to make matters worse for Bridgwater they lost Taylor to his second yellow card in the space of seven minutes late on.

Pearse told the Mercury: "It was a disappointing night.

"The first red card completely changed the game and it was a challenge I thought was more suited to a yellow.

"I am not one to berate referees, I appreciate they have a difficult job, but I thought he was poor for both teams last night.

"We were playing well until the first red card but it was always going to be tough after the sending off.

"I have no complaints about the penalty decision but was disappointed with their second goal - we just switched off from a free-kick."

Both Taylor and Llewellyn are available for Saturday's home match against Odd Down, with their suspensions to kick in after that. Taylor will miss next Friday's visit of Cribbs, with Llewellyn to miss both that and a further two matches thereafter, including the home tie against Roman Glass in the Les Phillips Cup - the only cup competition the Robins remain in this season.
