Hovelands 30, Jupiter 37

HOVELANDS welcomed Jupiter from Bridgwater in the first local home derby of the season.

Hovelands sported red poppies in their hair and both teams paused for a minute’s silence of remembrance.

Both sides sought their first win of the season and the game was tight, at 17-17 at half time.

But it was Jupiter who surged ahead to win by seven, leaving Hovelands disappointed.

It was another loss, but they can take encouragement from the scorelines getting closer and their performances improving.

Claremont 38, Sharks 33

IT was another new combination for Claremont, but they kept their winning streak going all the same.

The Galmington side were a shooter down, so the versatile Jess Hewitt stepped up to play GS and did a great job, moving well against a strong defence.

Claremont were up by two at the end of the first quarter, when super sub Toni stepped into GS and Jess went back to what she does best as GK.

Despite their best efforts it was level at half time.

However, more changes to the line-up did the trick, as they finally pulled away in the third quarter.

Some strong defence and excellent shooting from captain Lucy meant the lead was maintained, despite opponents Sharks pulling a few goals back right before the final whistle.

Somerset Division 1

Parkfield 49, Harlequins 49

PARKFIELD started well, only allowing the opposition a small lead, and throughout the second and third quarters they kept the gap close.

Despite allowing Harlequins to gain a seven-goal lead, Parkfield managed to fight back to draw 49-49 in the end.

Everyone played really well, and fought hard for every ball; there was a real sense of team spirit.

Somerset Division 3

Highfield 43, Jesters 37

HIGHFIELD took the high ground against Jesters and weren’t flooded out by the opposition.

Excited by the luxury of playing inside, they started strong and maintained that level.

Sprinting into the first quarter with strong shooting, Highfield squeezed ahead by one, as the scoreline read 11-10.

After a team talk at quarter time and a big rotation of positions with fresh legs, the team continued to increase their lead, and so after the second quarter they led 23-19.

Going into the third quarter, with a strong attacking third driving on the circle edge Jesters chased down their opponents, ending the third quarter only 33-30 in arrears.

After a team talk and amazing support from coach Juliet, hot and tired against a strong team, Highfield stayed strong, ending the match as 43-37 winners.
