Nailsea United 2, Middlezoy Rovers 2

MIDDLEZOY were back in Nailsea on Saturday, taking on Nailsea United.

Zoy, playing up the slope and into the wind in the first half, started well and had the majority of possession but were finding it hard to get balls in behind.

Nailsea struck first on 30 minutes, somewhat against the run of play, when a free-kick was not dealt with and a mis-hit shot rolled into the path of the centre forward to finish past Greg Turner.

Zoy could have struck back immediately when a well worked free-kick found Jed Williams, who couldn’t keep his header down.

In the second half, with the slope and wind in their favour, Zoy knew they were still very much in the game.

It didn’t take long to arrive as, 10 minutes into the half, a Callum Laird cross was well won at the back post by Matt Connick, whose header fell into the path of Adam Long to smash home.

No sooner had they drawn level, Zoy found themselves behind again.

A crossfield pass was intercepted in midfield and Nailsea broke with pace to allow their left-back to slot home and restore their lead.

To Nailsea’s credit they defended well but Zoy finally found a way through in the 90th minute when a long ball was flicked on by Luce into the path of Jake Horsey, who fired into the bottom corner.

With little time left to find a winner, Zoy settled for a point in difficult conditions.

Middlezoy Res 4, Nailsea Utd Res 4

THIS top-of-the-table clash provided plenty of entertainment on Saturday.

Middlezoy struck first on 15 minutes when Adam Prescott’s corner was powered home by Lee Graham at the back post.

They were caught on the counter, however, as the lively Nailsea winger skipped past Prescott and drilled his shot past keeper Rich.

Craig Wright restored the lead, nodding home a corner, before crashing a shot against a post - Steve Hall smashed home the rebound.

Five minutes before half-time, Wright scored his 11th goal in nine games after neat build-up.

Middlezoy started the second half well but, again, were caught on another counter 10 minutes in.

Callum James had a chance to put the game to bed in the 70th minute but his effort was wide of the target.

Nailsea went straight up the other end and scored, then hit the equaliser with five minutes remaining.

Middlezoy Rovers Ladies 5, Bishops Lydeard Ladies 2

MIDDLEZOY Ladies took on the leaders at the Aerodrome and put in a fine display to take the spoils.

Lydeard started the stronger but, playing with a strong wind behind them, Middlezoy started to gain the upper hand and opened the scoring when Anusia Rourke smashed a powerful free-kick into the corner of the net.

Middlezoy kept up the pressure and were rewarded after 25 minutes when Chloe Snook controlled a cross and hit a powerful shot into the roof of the net.

Rourke added a third before missing a fine chance to seal a first-half hat-trick moments later as Zoy went in 3-0 up.

Rourke did complete her treble from the spot after she was brought down, and Lydeard pulled a goal back after 70 minutes.

Zoy came back strongly and Krystal Edwards hit the post before Snook outpaced her marker and slotted home for number five.

Middlezoy tired a little late on and Lydeard scored their second, but Middlezoy comfortably saw out the final minutes to seal a superb victory.

Next week sees the Ladies at home again, against Callington Town from Cornwall (2pm).
