Premier Division
Nailsea & Tickenham 1, Middlezoy Rovers 4

AFTER cup success last week, Middlezoy got back into league action at Nailsea & Tickenham – always a tough away day.

Nailsea started the brighter and, just as Zoy began to pick up, the ball was given away and the counter-attack ended with Luke Osgood slotting past the onrushing Greg Turner.

This gave the visitors a much-needed wake-up call and after a succession of quality deliveries in wide areas from Aaron Whaites, given number 11 for a rare fixture, Zoy equalised after sustained pressure led to an own goal after 33 minutes.

Full-backs Charlie Lintell and Callum Laird were giving great support going forward, and it was from out wide, that, on 38 minutes, Zoy went ahead after good work from Lintell.

The ball in found Connick who, from the the edge of the box finished superbly into the top corner.

Zoy extended their lead just before the break after Johnny Higgins and Temlett combined to find Lintell, whose cross in from the left caused panic and another own goal.

Nailsea came out in positive mood but Zoy dealt well with the pressure.

Jed Williams was brought on to cover the flying Nailsea wing-backs and it was stalemate until Zoy made the game safe.

Another corner from Whaites found the towering Andy Smith again at the back stick, and he nodded back across goal to find the substitute Williams to slot home from close range.

A late cameo appearance from the gaffer Craig Berry, who replaced Whaites, saw the game finish in great spirit and with a 4-1 win.

Man of the match: Aaron Whaites

This coming Saturday, Zoy travel to Nailsea United (ko 3pm).

Division 3
Middlezoy Rovers Reserves 1, Yatton & Cleeve Utd Reserves 1

ON a glorious Saturday afternoon, Middlezoy Reserves hosted Yatton & Cleeve Reserves in what was a good encounter.

Zoy came flying out the blocks, as Craig Wright’s corner was headed home by the unmarked Charlie May after only five minutes.

The hosts thought they had gone 2-0 up moments later, as Wright took three players out of the game, and picked out Scott Capel to lob over the goalkeeper, only for the linesman to put his flag up for offside.

Zoy pressed for that key second goal, but a lack of concentration saw their opponents score from a quickly-taken free-kick.

And so the teams headed in level at the break.

The home side again started well, Wright having two headers go over the bar when well placed.

Sam Hallet crossed for Carl Tucker, whose shot was parried away to Wright, but the keeper smothered his shot and then repelled Steve Hall’s scuffed rebound.

In the last move of the game, Simon Bone’s long throw was brought down by Tucker and passed to Wright, who snatched at his shot and sent it wide.

The visitors were over the moon with the point and the hosts left frustrated.
