Middlezoy Rovers 0, Fry Club 2

MIDDLEZOY were aware in advance of kick-off that Saturday’s game with Fry Club was always going to be tough, as Frys were top of the table.

The visitors started the stronger, exerting pressure high up the pitch, and Zoy goalkeeper Greg Turner was called into action at his near post early on.

But the home side then started to get a hold on the game and had their best 25 minutes of the half.

They enjoyed good possession but were doing little to trouble the opposition keeper.

Good link-up play by Callum Laird and Alex Clapp found Thomas Brown bursting from centre-back to shoot from distance, but his effort went over the top.

Then Jed Williams cut in from the left, but his shot was blocked.

That was followed by a moment to forget from Middlezoy, as they gifted the opposition the opening goal on 24 minutes.

A defensive mix-up left the centre forward, Nick Walters, with an open goal and he made no mistake with his finish.

Middlezoy pressed again but to no avail, as the half-time score remained at 1-0 to the away side.

The hosts went out on the front foot, only to be dealt a blow in the 55th minute, Frys doubling their lead with Justin Skinner’s well-struck free-kick from distance that found the bottom corner.

The visitors then just kept things simple, and Middlezoy found them impossible to break down.

Jake Horsey and Ollie Ham were introduced on the hour and, almost instantly from a corner, Horsey won an indirect free kick in the six-yard box for a high foot against him.

But Zoy’s recent luck was not going to change as the Frys’ 10 players on the line kept the shot out.

This meant a third straight loss for Middlezoy, but they are confident that their possession and ability in the side will mean that, before long, the results will change.

Man of the match: Dan Luce

This coming Saturday, Zoy travel to Clutton (ko 3pm).
