BRIDGWATER Town are hoping to take their league form into the FA Vase as they travel to Exmouth Town in the second qualifying round on Saturday.

The Robins sit top of the Toolstation Western League Premier Division with five wins from seven games, and are now keen for a cup run after their FA Cup exit at the hands of Cheddar in the extra preliminary round.

Exmouth currently sit sixth in the South West Peninsula League Premier Division, and Bridgwater boss Dave Pearse is expecting a tough assignment on the Devon coast.

He told the Mercury: "I played with their manager [Kevin Hill] at Tiverton a few years ago and I know him well.

"I know he will have them well organised and they have got some good players, so we will have to be on it.

"We would like a cup run of some sort, especially after what happened in the FA Cup, and we had some good trips in this competition last year."

Bridgwater have scored 23 goals in seven league matches this season - the joint-most of anyone at Step 5 - and Pearse is understandably pleased with how clinical his players have been.

"At the start of the season I wanted the goals to be spread around more, so we weren't overly reliant on Jack Taylor," he said.

"At Hengrove last Saturday, three of our four goals were scored by defenders, which was great to see.

"We have taken our chances well so far - to have a goal difference of +19 at this stage is brilliant."

Bridgwater will be well supported at Exmouth on Saturday, with a full supporters coach making its way to the seaside.
