TAUNTON Town manager Leigh Robinson was delighted with his side's 'perfect start' to life in Southern League Premier Division South, but warned that Tuesday night's match at Weymouth will be a much tougher challenge.

The Peacocks thumped Staines Town 4-0 on Saturday, in front of 571 fans at the Viridor Stadium, with Andrew Neal, Ollie Chamberlain, Matt Buse and Craig Veal all on the scoresheet.

Robinson said: "It was pretty much all we could have asked for from the first game of the season - a comfortable win in the end, four goals, a clean sheet, a good crowd in and a good atmosphere.

"It's a perfect start, and a continuation from pre-season really, but no-one's under any illusions that Tuesday will be a hell of a tough game against a real good side."

The front three of Neal, Dan Sullivan and Matt Wright combined well on Saturday, indicating that there could be plenty of goals for Peacocks fans to enjoy this season.

Robinson said: "They do on a personal level know each other quite well, and have played quite a bit of football together previously, so it doesn't take much for those three to click.

"We were keen to get all three out on the pitch, and be positive in our first game at home; we changed the system a little bit [to 4-3-3] and it seemed to work well.

"I was keen to change the system and keep that element of surprise, and show the players that they're good enough to play any formation.

"I was a little bit worried that they might be concerned about coming away from what we've been so good at - three at the back - over the last couple of years.

"But we said, it's the first game of the season, it doesn't matter about the system, just go for the throat - and that's what they did."

Another bonus for the Peacocks boss was that he could give Wright and Ryan Brett a rest 20 minutes from the end, ahead of Tuesday night's big game.

"Ryan Brett was on a booking, and it only takes a moment of silliness from a referee and he's got a one-game ban, so we protected him from that," added Robinson.

"And we wanted to keep Wrighty fresh for Tuesday, as it's a big pitch up at Weymouth."

The Peacocks face Weymouth on Tuesday (7.45pm kick-off at the Bob Lucas Stadium), the Terras having started with a 3-2 win over Harrow Borough.

Brandon Goodship netted a hat-trick in that match, and is one of several talented players in Mark Molesley's side.

Robinson added: "It's a much tougher game on Tuesday night - arguably Weymouth are favourites for the league, as a big club with a big budget and a good squad.

"There's not many games that we're underdogs for, but we will be on Tuesday night!

"But with the group of players that we've got, they'll be determined to put themselves up against these sorts of teams - it's what last season's promotion was all about - and we want another positive result to put us on the map again."
