Westbury United 3, Wellington AFC 1

WELLINGTON went down to defeat in their opening Western League match of the season on Saturday, as they were reduced to nine men away to newly-promoted Westbury United.

The visitors went ahead on 11 minutes, as new signing Josh Wadham profited from some hesitant defending after Josh McLean's long goal-kick to fire home.

Wadham and Connor Bryant were denied by Ed Baldy in the home goal, before Westbury levelled just before half time through Jamie Jordan's curling effort.

Things then fell apart for the Tangerines just after the hour mark, as Joe Chamberlain was sent off for a second yellow, and Dan Kovacs burst through to give the home side the lead.

Kai Fisher then gave away a penalty, resulting in a second yellow to leave Wellington with nine men, and Kovacs put away the spot-kick.

There was no way back from there, and Wellington will hope for better this coming Saturday, away to Bridport in the FA Cup extra preliminary round (ko 3pm).

TAUNTON Town finish their pre-season campaign tonight, at home to Bristol City XI (ko 7.45pm).

The Peacocks are yet to lose a friendly, having won four and drawn with Exeter City, but will be tested by a City side likely to be dominated by Under-23 squad players.

Ben Adelsbury, Keith Emmerson and Dan Sullivan are all set to return for Taunton, after missing last Thursday's win at Melksham Town.

The Peacocks' first match in the Evo-Stik Southern League Premier Division South is at the Viridor Stadium this Saturday (ko 3pm), against Staines Town.
