Taunton Deane 268-9 beat Taunton 247 by 21 runs

TAUNTON Deane made it two wins out of two in this season's Premier 2 competition against local rivals Taunton, winning the home match by 21 runs.

Taunton put their hosts in to bat first at the Convent Field, but there were runs aplenty from top order batsmen Rob Woodman (24), Alastair Warren (50) and Harry Thomas (61no).

That took Deane to 157-4, and with Sam Shaikh adding 49, that became 252-6, with Thomas unbeaten as his side posted 268-9.

Four Taunton bowlers took two wickets apiece, with Somerset CCC captain Tom Abell (2-27 off 10 overs) the star man.

The visitors made a similarly promising start to their reply, Ben Phillips hitting 42 and Abell 69.

Abell fell at 204-6, and Hugh Kelly (52) led Taunton to 241, but then they lost their last four wickets for just six runs.

Calvin Harrison (2-42 off 10) and Harry Thomas (2-46 off 10) were on form for Deane.

Next Saturday sees Taunton host Midsomer Norton, and Deane go to Weston-super-Mare (12.30pm starts).

Frocester 204-2 beat Taunton St Andrew's 199 by 8 wkts

TAUNTON St Andrew's were humbled by eight wickets at home to Frocester on Saturday.

Martin Jenkins (0) fell very early on in Saints' innings, but Eddie Byrom rocketed to 96 off 95 balls.

He eventually fell at 171-5, with Lloyd Alley adding 36, but there was very little forthcoming from the lower order, as Andy Solomons took 3-44 off 8.3 for Frocester.

The chase looked to be a formality once Louis Gegg (57) and Callum Gegg (54) had put on 126 for the first wicket.

So it proved, as despite both Geggs being removed by James Regan (2-42 off six), Uzi Qureshi (26no) and Solomons (41no) finished it off.

Saints look to bounce back at home to Bedminster next Saturday (12.30pm start).
