THE First Division of the Toolstation Western League – which features Chard Town – will include 20 teams in 2018/19, following two successful appeals, writes Colin Dunford.

The FA have reinstated both Warminster Town and Portishead Town, both of whom had initially been relegated in a reorganisation by the FA, with the league reduced to 18 teams.

However, this move brings the total back up to 20 teams, meaning 38 league games for Chard next season.

Almondsbury were unsuccessful in their appeal, however, and will be playing in the Hellenic League, while the Les Phillips Cup will be played in midweek next season.

The decision had not been made in time for the Western League’s AGM last Wednesday night, instead coming in over last weekend.

As a result, the fixture announcement for 2018/19 was delayed and the Les Phillips Cup was not drawn.
