TAUNTON-based light heavyweight Pawel Augustynik unanimously defeated Kamil Al Temimi (40-36) over four rounds at Ashton Gate last Saturday night, writes Mark Gatford.

Augustynik dropped Al Temimi with a trademark body shot in a dominant display that extends his unbeaten record to 6-0.

His opponent - a fellow Pole with an excellent amateur record - came to fight and asked new questions of Augustynik in front of his spirited Somerset support.

Both men started tentatively but Augustynik established his ramrod jab in the second, setting up a barrage of clean hooks. His countryman saw some success of his own as the competitive bout began to boil.

Continuing to work off the all-important jab, the Taunton man ripped in a flurry of hurtful body shots midway through round three.

Lifted by the crowd, Augustynik landed at will to head and body before scooping a hard right into Al Temimi’s ribcage leaving him crumpled on the canvas.

Al Temimi, to his credit, returned to his feet and took an eight count to see out the round. Augustynik cruised to the closing bell in the final stanza, exhibiting classy shot selection.

After the contest, the unbeaten 22-year-old said: “It was a good test for me; thank you to everyone who came out - the atmosphere was amazing.”

There’s little rest for Augustynik who steps back in the ring on April 21 in Weston-super-Mare.
