TAUNTON Town are hoping to break the 18-year club record of 23 league games unbeaten, and stretch their lead at the Evo-Stik Southern League summit, away to Barnstaple Town tonight (ko 7.45pm).

The Peacocks matched the record set in the 1999/2000 season with a 2-2 draw at Salisbury on Saturday, which kept the gap between the two title contenders at eight points.

Victory tonight would not only make it 24 games without defeat in the league, surpassing the achievement of Russell Musker's title winners at the turn of the century, but would also give them an 11-point buffer over second-placed Salisbury.

Taunton understand that there are no issues with the pitch at Barnstaple's Mill Road ground, so there should not be a repeat of the last-minute postponement of the fixture earlier this month.

The Peacocks should have the same squad available from Saturday's match, and will be looking to repeat their success in the reverse fixture, a 3-0 win at the Viridor Stadium which came courtesy of goals from Dan Sullivan, Ryan Brett and Matt Buse.

Barnstaple are struggling at the wrong end of the table, sitting in 20th place and eight points clear of basement side Bishops Cleeve.
