Regional League 2S
Jupiter 33, Babylon 67

JUPITER got off to a strong start against Babylon, keeping goal for goal for the majority of the first quarter with excellent shooting by Cerys Ethridge, but wayward passes allowed Babylon to pull ahead.

In the second quarter Jupiter allowed Babylon to take control of the game.

Going into the second half Jupiter’s aim was to get a point, and player of the match Alisha Gardener provided that vital link between defence and attack including accurate passing to the shooters.

With tight defending by Sally Haysham and Emily Bridges, Jupiter started to slow down Babylon’s momentum and finished the third quarter 26-52.

In the final few minutes, Jupiter made some errors which allowed Babylon to stop Jupiter achieving their goal.

Player of the match: Alisha Gardener; Opposition player: Sally Haysham.

Saturn 41, Newton 65

SATURN started strongly, matching Newton goal for goal with some greatly timed feeds into the circle by Hannah Sayer (WA) were put away with ease by Cerys Ethridge (GA) and Darcie Dunn (GS).

A burst by Newton in the final minutes of the quarter saw them pull away and take the lead at the end of the first quarter.

Saturn knew they had to continue with the same intensity and the defensive trio of Eve Jenner (GD) Rebecca Dunn (GK) and Lauren Faye Cook (WD) did not disappoint, working tirelessly to create errors in the Newton attack but unfortunately trailing at half time 20-32.

The third quarter saw Christine Durant (WD) and Aiste Mockeliunaite (C) working hard to bring the ball down the court, but Newton were managing timely intercepts so the quarter ended 31-48.

Newton started the final quarter applying pressure, but Saturn didn’t quite have the stamina to match and saw too many loose ball and ill-timed passes which Newton used that to their advantage to pull away and take the victory.

Somerset Division 1
Neptune 23, Hendford 47

NEPTUNE came up against a strong Hendford side.

All Neptune players put in 100% effort and clean centre passes from Elaine Bowerman (C) to Chris Shaw (WA) and Christine Durant (WD) enabled safe passes to shooters Katie Harris (GA) and Phoebe Alderwick (GS) as the first quarter ended 7-10 to Hendford.

Neptune tried to keep on the pressure but Hendford were able to push on and the score at half time was 22-11 in their favour.

In the third quarter, Tiffany Brice made an impact with timely tips of the ball and driving the ball down the court, but in the final quarter Hendford kept pressure on and earned the win.

Somerset Division 2
Venus 21, Reckleford 44

THE conditions were not ideal for either team but the first quarter saw them evenly matched, with excellent shooting from Sarah Perry keeping Venus in the hunt.

In the second quarter the visitors inched ahead by two goals and this set them up for a strong start in the second half.

With a nine-man squad, Venus had to make numerous changes at half time and took a while to settle despite the tireless efforts of captain Elaine Bowerman (C).

Andrea Martin-Haste (GK/GD) was awarded a well deserved player of the match for her numerous interceptions on her Venus debut.

Player of the match: Andrea Martin-Haste

Venus squad: Sarah Perry, Izzy Innalls, Chris Shaw, Bethany Hayes, Elaine Bowerman, Tiffany Brice, Christine Durant, Andrea Martin-haste, Sharon Ethridge

Regional League 3S
Titans Thunder 47, Sydenham Gems 38

GEMS travelled to Devon to face Titans Thunder, and the visitors started slowly.

Gems made many unforced errors and found it hard to bring the ball through the court into the attacking third, though the first quarter ended 11-9 in their favour.

Gems knew what they needed to do to extend the lead but putting it into practice was not easy.

The Sydenham side struggled to find their form and mistakes by both teams hampered the flow of the game, leading to a close scoreline throughout.

Heading into the last quarter Gems were determined to step it up a gear, and the defence certainly did that by putting pressure on Titans attack.

Unfortunately it wasn’t enough to bag a win for Gems and the game ended 47-38 to Titans.

Somerset Division 3
Emeralds 33, Thorns 26

EMERALDS played Thorns and had a good start, leading from the beginning.

Emeralds played steadily, battling the rain as they played with fight, linking well and driving into space to feed the ball to the shooters.

The second quarter was the best for Emeralds defence as they played with energy, getting valuable interceptions and rebounds, keeping the score at 16-11.

Emeralds came back strongly in the third quarter with both shooters driving for the ball and, despite the weather, keeping their shooting game strong to extend Emeralds lead.

The last quarter saw the intensity step up, with great play throughout the court allowing Emeralds to keep their deserved lead.
