DAN Broom needed just 65 strokes to complete his round at Brean in the Lukee Cup on Sunday morning and with it won the silverware with 46 points.

He beat par by four and also scored one of only three twos in the men’s event as he reduced his handicap back down to five.

Runner-up to Broom in Division 1 was Russell Shaw with 42 points.

Jerry Brueford was Broom’s nearest challenger overall with his 43-point card, winning Division 2 by two from Mike Carter.

Tony Romeo was the Division 3 winner with 39 points, one clear of Dave Jones.

Lyn Bird was the Ladies winner with 35 points, beating the up-and-coming Millie Jones into second with her return of 32.

Gordy Wheelaghan produced a stunning round of golf the previous day, taking victory in the Winter League Stableford round on Saturday.

He carded 46 points, which was no less than eight better than anyone else in the 25-strong field.

The runners-up spot was a much closer affair, with Nigel Ellis taking it on countback from Ron Edmondson after both scored 38 points.
