Berrow & Highbridge 3, Weston St John 0

BERROW & Highbridge made it three wins out of three as they followed up an unlikely derby victory in midweek over a Burnham side containing several ex-Berrow players.

It was a welcome boost to the beleaguered club as they look to rebuild after a disastrous pre-season, and it appeared to give them the springboard to continue where they left off as they brushed aside Weston St John in a typically blustery day at Red Road.

The hosts welcomed back Luke McErlain for his first appearance and he gave his typical classy performance in the middle of the park, appearing to improve with age with his 35th birthday fast approaching.

B&H took the lead as their talisman, Chris Taylor, followed up his midweek double to score his sixth in three after great work down the right by the returning Scott Harman.

Taylor was on hand to return the favour, teeing-up Harman to tap in.

The hosts suffered a blow when Jack Hirons, carrying a knock from midweek, was unable to carry on after aggravating the injury; he was replaced by youngster Josh Watkins, normally a striker, who filled in superbly at centre back.

The home side rounded things off when man-of-the-match Darren Partridge, who had run himself into the ground, got a well-deserved goal to complete the scoring.

Manager Matt Pitt could hardly contain his delight at the final whistle, commenting: "Another great result for us, after what has been the most difficult pre-season ever.

"Roll on Wednesday at Street."

That match, at Street Reserves on Wednesday, kicks off at 7.30pm; Saturday sees them at home to Clevedon United Reserves (ko 3pm).

The good news continued for the fledgling club, as they were able to confirm a new club sponsor.

The club would like to thank Barbara Warner, of Abbey Cabs, for her amazing generosity.

Burnham United 2, Combe St Nicholas 0

AFTER their disappointing midweek defeat, Burnham United were given the chance to get back to winning ways with a home league game with Combe St Nicholas.

They started positively and created several chances in a good first-half performance, but went into the break at 0-0.

The second half showed no let-up, with Burnham continuing to press forward, and they got their reward in the 60th minute, as quick thinking from Warren Mylum sent Jordie Eldridge through to coolly slot home.

Eldridge made it 2-0 15 minutes later, having gone through one-on-one with the keeper to finish, giving Burnham the victory their play deserved.

Burnham sit sixth in the league standings, and host Uphill Castle tomorrow (Tuesday, ko 6.30pm).

Then, on Saturday, they travel to Churchill Club 70 (ko 3pm).
