TAUNTON & Pickeridge Golf Club hosted the Musgrove Cup on Friday, an annual competition which raises money for the League of Friends at Musgrove Park Hospital.

Somewhere in the region of £3,500 was raised and this will go towards the Friends’ support for a Magic Carpet for the Children’s Ward.

This is a computer-driven piece of equipment with around 500 apps that help children with their sensory perception and motor control.

The organisers would like to thank all the sponsors for their continuing support.

The overall competition winners were Stephen and Mercy Lamb with 48 points.

The next two places were decided on countback, with Paul Gough and David Price bagging second, and T&P ex-captain Mike Crump and wife Heather third.

The Griffin Cup competition took place on a sunny Sunday afternoon, a highlight being Mary-Jo Shepherd’s hole-in-one on the 178-yard 10th hole.

The winners of the Cup were Cliff Phur and Lennox Heath with 46 points.

Second, on countback, were Trevor French and Mary-Jo Shepherd, from Ian Sutcliffe and Rosie Spragg.

On Tuesday, the Ladies played for the Captain’s Charity Medal, raising £34 for the Ladies’ Captain’s chosen charity, the Alzheimer’s Society.

In the Silver Division it was Mary Guy who was top with nett 73, one ahead of Carole Rotheram, with third place going to Corinne Lyon on 76 (on countback).

Bronze winner was Linda Knowles with nett 73, one ahead of Anna Rees, second on countback from Linda Fletcher (both on 74).

The Winner of the Ladies’ Captain’s Charity Trophy was Linda Knowles, on countback from Mary Guy.

The winner of the 9-Hole Stableford was Jackie Denton-Cox with 18 points, while Ann Williams was second on 15.

A DRAB morning last week attracted a small field for the Seniors’ Captain’s Cup at Vivary Golf Club.

Barry Hembrow and Bob Stock came home with a regulation net 65 but Hembrow took the prize with a better back nine, one ahead of Brian Davey on 66.

Rod Hobson swept all before him with a strong 44 in the Les Mason Stableford, four points in front of second-placed Dave Hinton.

Pete Jeffery and Brian Davey scored 39 each but Jeffery was placed third on countback.

The Reg Griffiths Trophy, played as a pairs greensome saw the wet weather limit the scores but Pete Jeffery and Graham Morris nevertheless came in with a 62.8.

Second were Keith Parker and Mike Manning on 64.2; third were Rod Hobson and John Fisher on 65.

THE Captain’s Charity Day at Oake Manor Golf Club was, as always, well supported by members and their guests.

Thirty-six teams entered the competition and the winners were the Mint & Mustard team, led by Clive Thorne.

Thorne and team-mates Dave Hollow, Mark Holloway and Chris Rudd produced a magnificent score of 96.

The event was followed by a Fawlty Towers Dining Evening, which was a huge success.

Adam Stoneman scored a nett 67 to win the John Stevens Memorial Cup at Oake Manor on Saturday.

Second, in Division 1, was Simon Mankin, also nett 67 and Simon Malloy came third with nett 68.

Roger Goodman was Division 2 winner with nett 69, Darren Blows was second with nett 70 and Dave Culverwell third, also nett 70.

Karren Potter was an easy winner of the ladies’ weekend Stableford with 42 points, Kathryn Loader was second with 38 and Rachel Hughes was third with 34.

Martin Rivers was the runaway winner for the Seniors John Matthews Putter competition on Monday, scoring 45 points. Dave Kinnear was second with 43, Chris Stokes third on 41 and Peter Swann fourth, also on 41.

Ian Hockey was Division 2 winner with 42 points, Bob Sanders second with 41, John Still third with 40 and Howard Spear fourth, also 40.

In the same competition, Mike Parsons had a hole in one on the par 3, 14th hole.

Kathryn Loader won the Ladies’ Tuesday Stableford with 36 points, second in Division 1 was Kathy Salway with 35 and Rachel Hughes was third with 34.

Gill Hadley, with 35, won Division 2, Betty Marney was second with 33 and Pat Snellings third with 32.
