BURNHAM United begin their Somerset County League Division 1W campaign with a home match against Congresbury on Saturday (ko 3pm).

United finished eighth last season and it could be another competitive division this time out, with 18 teams fighting it out for promotion to the Premier Division.

Another of those, the newly-merged Berrow & Highbridge, begin their league campaign with a trip to Churchill Club 70.

Berrow finished second bottom of the Premier Division in 2016/17, with Highbridge ending 10th in Division 1W, and the two have decided that their future prospects would be better served by the sides joining forces.

BOTH clubs have entered their reserve sides into Division 2 of the County League and begin their campaigns this weekend.

Burnham’s second string travel to Cheddar Reserves, while Berrow & Highbridge Reserves host Stockwood Green Reserves.

Another Berrow & Highbridge reserve side are set to play in Division 3 of the Taunton & District Saturday League, which is one of 32 across the country to be trialling sin bins in the coming season.

Previewing the division, press officer Dave Whelan said: “With plenty of reserve sides in the division it’s very hard to know how things will pan out, but expect a good season from newly formed Castlemoat, who have been doing good things in Taunton’s Sunday League.”
