Toolstation Western League
Premier Division
Buckland Athletic 3, Wellington 2

WELLINGTON lost by the odd goal in five in their Toolstation Western League Premier Division opener, away at Buckland Athletic.

The hosts took the lead after just five minutes, as Wellington were penalised for handball and Rich Groves dispatched the spot-kick.

And the visitors found themselves 2-0 down after 20 minutes, as Groves' shot was diverted into his own net by Jack Bryant.

Wellington pulled one back 10 minutes later, however, as Glen Wright dispossessed Karl Green and set up Jack Taylor to slot home left-footed.

It stayed 2-1 at half time, but only after Buckland keeper Adam Seedhouse made a double save to deny Bryant and Wright.

The home side restored their two-goal advantage 15 minutes into the second half, as Cam Kelly was allowed a free header from a corner.

That lead was reduced again with 15 minutes to go, as Buckland conceded a penalty and Ian Bellinger placed it into the bottom corner.

They could not find an equaliser, however, as the hosts held on to take all three points.

Wellington are away again on Saturday, at Bradford Town (ko 3pm), with new signings Joe Chamberlain and George Painter set to be included in the squad.

Pre-season friendly
Bovey Tracey 0, Taunton Town 4

LEWIS Powell scored twice as Taunton Town won their final pre-season friendly at South West Peninsula side Bovey Tracey.

After a couple of early chances for strikers Powell and Matt Wright, the visitors took the lead on 40 minutes as Powell found the bottom corner from Wright's flick-on.

Ross Staley replaced Owen Irish at half time for the Peacocks, and - after Arran Pugh had hit the crossbar from Ryan Brett's corner - it was Staley who claimed the second goal on 49 minutes, driving home from 25 yards.

The chances kept on coming, and it was 3-0 in the 75th minute as Powell netted from the penalty spot after being brought down by the hosts' goalkeeper.

Captain Wright then scored his first goal of pre-season with five minutes remaining, heading in Ollie Chamberlain's cross from the right.
