SOMERSET Road Club cyclists have enjoyed a successful month of racing.

Hannah Newsham and Heidi Viles, both from Taunton, took part in the challenging Oxfordshire Road Race, in 28 degree heat, forming a successful break from the main field and coming in a dead heat for third place.

Gemma Waterjohns, from North Petherton, came third in a 50-mile Hardriders time trial, hosted by Bristol South Cycling Club and held in Wiltshire.

She paced herself well over the challenging two-lap course.

There was joint success for the family, as her husband Mike Waterjohns was first home in the renowned cyclocross 100-mile South Downs Way Sportive, a course which includes nearly 12,000ft of climbing, in a superb time of just over eight hours.

Somerset Road Club members are preparing to compete among 30,000 riders in the nation’s largest road cycling event of the year, the Prudential Ride London 100-mile sportive, on Sunday, July 30.

Darren Webb, Adam Laws, Wayne Hitchcock and Cymon Giles will represent the club in the men’s team category.
