TAUNTON Deane's youngsters won the Under-13s final of the Fullstop Fire and Security Ltd Taunton and District Youth Cricket League Cup, which took place at the Covent Field.

They beat Taunton St Andrew’s by eight wickets after asking their opponents to bat first.

The Saints got off to a slowish start but then accelerated well thanks to both James Rew and Harrison Barrett who both made 31 before they retired.

The innings slowed again towards the end due to fine death bowling from Charlie Sharland, with 3-10 and Joe Seymour, who claimed 1-7, both from four overs each as Saints ended on 111-6, which looked slightly under par at the time.

When they responded, Deane went out of the blocks quickly and, in spite of hard work by the Saints bowlers, got to the target in 15.3 overs, reaching 112 for the loss of two wickets thanks to Ben Chaffey, who retired on 31, and Charlie Sharland, who remained on 29 not out.

The Deane now go forward to the Somerset county final.

The Youth Cricket League would like to thank Taunton Deane for hosting the match and to independent umpires Stuart Allbutt and Dickie Allen for officiating.
