TAUNTON St Andrew’s A powered into the Baker Cup Final for 2017 with an 89-run win over Taunton in their semi-final tie.

Played at Taunton Deane, Eddie Byrom’s 86 was the outstanding performance on the evening as the two sides met for the second time at this stage in two seasons.

Saints’ Cup Final opponents will be known once Taunton Deane A and North Petherton have played at the Wyvern Club (due to be held tonight), with the final being played at Taunton on Monday, July 3.

Staplegrove will play in the Terry Mockridge Memorial Shield Final on their own patch following their 41-run win over Wellington.

Harry Graydon and Jake Pantling’s unbeaten stand of 52 in five overs was the difference in the game played at Wellington.

The first silverware of the season was given out on Monday evening as Taunton Deane B took the Davies-Bishop Trophy with a win over Watchet in a game played at Staplegrove.

B. Thomas (62) and D. Jessop (55) both hit half centuries as the Deane scored 167-4 from their 20 overs.

C. Norman then took 2-12 as Watchet were limited to 126-5 in response, despite 32 from C. Knight.

Ashbrittle and Middlezoy will battle for a place in the second Terry Mockridge Memorial Shield semi-final tonight, with the winner taking on Taunton B on Monday (June 26) at Wellington CC.

This competition’s final will be played on Monday, July 17, at Staplegrove CC.

IN the SCB Major KO Cup quarter-final, Wellington beat Taunton Deane by 21 runs.

Luke Desave hit a fine 77 as Wellington scored 142-5.

The Deane were never really in the hunt having been reduced to 1-3 and 7-4, meaning Henry Mellor’s fine 40 not out came too little, too late.
