HUNTSPILL & District are beginning to look cut adrift at the bottom of the Shrubbery Hotel Somerset Cricket League Division 4 after a narrow seven-run defeat to the side directly above them, Kilmington & Stourton.

O. Horner’s unbeaten 95 was the dominant knock in a Kilmington innings in which no other player scored more than 18, with the visitors ending on 202-9.

Huntspill’s reply started well, and T. Horner top scored with 41, but they could not quite score quickly enough and came up short on 195-7.

In the same division, Lympsham & Belvedere eased past Wellington 2nds by five wickets.

Samuel McCrea (2-26) removed both Wellington openers cheaply as Lympsham got off to a flyer with the ball and, though N. Crossing’s 58 helped the visitors recover, their total of 133 all out looked below-par.

That proved to be the case as openers Dave Luff (27) and McCrea (29) set about reaching the target.

Both batsmen fell and the middle order stuttered somewhat, but Gabriel Counsell (27*) kept his cool to see the hosts to victory after just 22 overs.

In Division 6N, East Huntspill lost by nine runs in a high-scoring encounter at Temple Cloud 2nds.

T. Iles hit exactly 100 and J. Head added 74 as Temple Cloud ended on 268-4, which proved just out of East Huntspill’s reach despite good knocks from N. Harding (75), M. Mitchell (41) and M. Edwards (41).

Runs were harder to come by for Wedmore, who collapsed to 33 all out against Weston-super-Mare 3rds and lost their grip on top spot in the process.

The match had started well for the hosts, as I. Harris took 4-21 and J. Burgess 3-23 to help bowl Weston out for 95.

No home batsman reached double figures in reply, however, and Weston leapfrogged their opponents at the summit.

In Division 7N, Mark were on the receiving end of a drubbing against Wembdon Wyverns, with captain S. Tinklin (27) the only player to hit double figures as they were skittled for 69 in pursuit of 294-4.

E. Lamb hit an unbeaten 65 for Huntspill & District 2nds in their 45-run defeat at Kilmington & Stourton 2nds in the same division.

Jason Parsons and Kevin Crockett both hit centuries as Lympsham & Belvedere 2nds racked up 319-5 against Bridgwater Sports in Division 8N.

They then needed to take only four wickets in reply against a heavily depleted home side, and consequently won by 195 runs.

Elsewhere in the division, Wedmore 2nds were beaten by 129 runs at Weston-super-Mare 4ths despite 56 from J. Kay.

IF the form book is anything to go by, Huntspill & District could be in for a tough afternoon as they host Trull in Division 4 this coming Saturday.

Huntspill narrowly are bottom of the table, while Trull are still protecting their 100 per cent record having won six matches out of six to date.

Third-placed Lympsham & Belvedere are away against Kilmington & Stourton.

In Division 6N, East Huntspill welcome the side directly below them, Winscombe 2nds, while Burnham 2nds are also at home as they face Cheddar 2nds in a mid-table encounter.

Struggling Mark go in search of a second win of the season but face a tough ask as they host table-topping Spaxton, who are yet to taste defeat this summer.

Elsewhere, Huntspill & District 2nds travel to Butleigh 2nds.

In Division 8N, Lympsham & Belvedere 2nds will look to keep hold of top spot as they entertain Cranmore 2nds, while Wedmore 2nds host Weston-super-Mare 4ths just a week after playing the same side away from home.
