BRIDGWATER & Taunton College held its Annual Sports Awards to a packed out audience at the McMillan Theatre recently.

Over 100 staff and students attended the glittering ceremony where 32 prizes were awarded to students in a variety of sports, including trampolining, rugby and basketball.

The awards recognise the achievements of individuals and teams across the College, from its Active provision designed to encourage all students to take part in sport for fun, through to the Performance programmes for students competing at a high level in their chosen discipline.

Awards included the Luke Buckingham Trophy, presented to the Team BTC captains of this year’s Varsity Games, an annual event established in honour of Luke, the creator of Team BTC Sport, who sadly passed away in 2015.

The competition was contested over five exciting fixtures against Richard Huish College in cricket, men’s football, ladies’ football, netball and basketball, with Team BTC emerging victorious.

Another award given on the night was the Mark Tucker Cup, presented to Level 3 Sport student and keen footballer Harrison Buller.

Jason Gunningham, Assistant Principal of Land-based, Sport and Foundation Studies at the College said: “It is always a privilege to present the Mark Tucker Cup in memory of our former student.

“It acknowledges a student’s commitment to the team, their passion for college football and also going above and beyond in true Team BTC style, and Harrison was a worthy winner this year.”
