OAKE Manor Golf Club Men’s and Ladies Club Championships were played on Saturday and Sunday last week, with 18 holes each day in blustery conditions.

The course was in excellent condition and well prepared by the greenkeepers led by James Williams.

Oake Manor greenkeeper Josh Martin won the Men’s Gross and Nett Championships with a gross score of 140 and a nett score of 136 over the two days.

Runner-up in the gross competition was Kobe Adams with a score of 144, and Mark Wooliscroft was runner-up in the nett competition with 140.

Jane Clist is the Ladies Club Champion for the eighth time with a gross score of 167, with Charlie Bolton runner-up thanks to a score of 178.

Liz How won the Ladies Nett Championship, scoring nett 144, and Sue Reed was the runner-up with nett 152.

In other competitions, the Wednesday Midweek Stableford saw Jack Malden win Division 1 by scoring 40 points, ahead of second-placed Martin Rivers, with 36 points, and third Kevin Ward, with 35.

Colin Shepherd won Division 1 of the Seniors’ Monday Stableford with 38 points; Martin Rivers was second on 36 points and Michael Bright third on 33.

Howard Spear claimed Division 2 with 38 points, ahead of Ian Hockey on 33 points and Trevor Cook on 32.

Oake Manor also hosted the PGA (West Region) Total Triumph Classic last week, with the winner praising the club for the immaculate course conditions.

Welshman Sion Bebb claimed his first Order of Merit trophy for 17 years at the event, the 48-year-old beating Ladies European Tour player Lydia Hall and rising star Ashley Mansell with a birdie on the second hole of a sudden-death play-off.

ON Tuesday the Ladies Section at Taunton & Pickeridge Golf Club took part in the Hawkes Salver and Cup Stableford.

The Hawkes Salver winner for the Silver Division was Louise Worth on 43 points, ahead of Lennox Heath (37) and Terina Parker (36). Twos were scored in the Silver Division by Louise Worth and Rosie Spragg.

In the Bronze Division, the Hawkes Cup went to Sue Walsh (36 points), with Heather Crump scoring 34 and Anna Rees 32. The only two in the Bronze Division was scored by Heather Crump.

The nine-hole Stableford winner was Jackie Denton-Cox with 16 points.

On Sunday, 14 couples took part in the annual Husbands and Wives Greensomes Stableford.

The winners, with 42 points, were Peter and Maureen Hailes, who first won the competition 10 years ago.

Mike and Heather Crump were second with 41 points, while Bob and Corinne Lyon were third with 40.

Bailey Langford, with 39 points playing off a nine handicap, was the winner of the Junior Club Night; second went to Kyle Miller with 37 playing off 12.

George Moulding was third, Charlie Hooper fourth and Alfie Jubb fifth.
