THE Terry Green Open took place in breezy conditions at Enmore in a mixed Greensomes format, with 70 pairs visiting from far and wide, but it was homegrown talent that rose to the top of the leaderboard.

In third place were Pat Rogers and Martyn Acland with 40 points, and the runners-up (losing on countback) were Marilyn and Adam Terrell with 42 points.

The winners were Michelle Orris and Dan Andison, who recorded an excellent 24 points on the back nine holes.

Matt Lazenby defied tough conditions in the Midweek Medal to capture Division 1 with a nett 68 as his mojo returned.

His round started with eight pars followed by three bogeys, then all pars apart from a two on the 15th which was so nearly an ace, finishing inches from the cup.

Bar manager Steve Darch won Division 2 with a nett 70 and also bagged £10 for a two – Stuart Woodley was the only other competitor to repeat that feat.

Ladies captain Linda Anniss and Diana Dee both scored nett 73 to win the silver and bronze divisions.

The ‘Major’ of club nights was this week with Nigel Musgrave Brown, Peter Rosewarn and Pete Edmonds peaking for the Fred Turner Trophy!

The trio took the spoils after recording an 81, a great score in very windy conditions.

C. Wright, C. Lazenby and A. Clapp were second with 78, ahead of C. Chapple, R. Barber and C. Johnson in third on 75.

Last Friday, Enmore hosted the annual Ramblers Carnival Club golf day, a charity event which attracted more than 100 players thanks to Paul Webber’s efforts.

The day was a success, with plenty of money raised, and the winning score was a crazy 97 points (-25) from members A. Evans and C. Tompkins, plus ex-members M. Newbury and M. Cridland.

Enmore’s Avalon Seniors team remain unbeaten this year following their match at Worlebury.

The first two pairs of Mike Rossiter & Martyn Westbury and Rob Fear & Jeff Saunders got them off to a good start, with Steve Lukins & Paul Martin securing the 3-2 victory.

Enmore Park Seniors’ usual two matches per week were disrupted this week when the match at Honiton was called off due to the unseasonal high winds and heavy rain.

However, the next day Enmore were able to entertain their friends from the Bristol & Clifton club, and came in as emphatic victors by 6½ matches to 1½.

BREAN Golf Club’s Avalon League Division Three team gained a useful halved match result away at Stockwood Vale on Sunday.

Despite almost everyone giving shots to their hosts, they came home with the lion’s share of the points as they were the away side.

Next weekend Steve Bateman’s team are away again, at The Mendip.

Division Five Captain Mike Carter fielded a strong team for the home match against Orchardleigh on Sunday and his move paid dividends as they whitewashed their opponents in a 5-0 win.

This brought them a maximum 12-point haul, and they look forward to the return encounter with Orchardleigh at the start of next month.

Dan Reason and Byron Lismore teamed up to win the Open Betterball event at Brean on Sunday, storming home in a superb inward half of 25 points to win by a point.

Their 43-point total was one better than early leaders Phil Hodgson and Simon Baunton, who in turn edged out Dave Bradley and Jordan Harris after a countback.

Another pair winning a countback was Tony Romeo and Roger Phillips, as they secured the final prize with the best back nine of the brace of 41-point scores.

Lyn Bird won the Pro Shop Stableford played on Saturday with 41 points, which gave her a two-point winning margin over Tony Richards.

Richards, Russell Shaw and Clive Goode all returned 39-point scores but the countback was won by Richards ahead of Shaw in third.

Around 40 Brean golfers made the annual trip to Fosseway for the Paul Wynne Memorial Day.

John Fuller and Andrew Flagg won with nett 55.3, 0.7 of a shot up on Dave Wellington and Brean’s Steve Mason.

John Cranley was the winner of the second round of the Seniors Captains Cup in testing conditions on Tuesday.

Brean Ladies faced Weston in a friendly on Thursday, the visitors winning by five games to three.
