WEPL Premier 2 Bristol/Somerset
Ilminster (234 all out) beat Glastonbury (176 all out) by 58 runs

JAMES Thompson took 3-20 to help Ilminster secure their first win of the season, as Glastonbury were seen off by 58 runs.

Visitors Glastonbury won the toss and put the hosts in to bat.

Initially Ilminster made hay, with Louis Kraucamp (47), Charlie Vickery (53) and captain Sam Spurway (58) leading the charge.

But Glastonbury’s Ali Easton (4-42) then tore through the hosts’ middle order, before 21 from Thompson dragged them up to 234 all out in 50 overs.

The away side’s run chase never really got off the ground, as Ilminster’s Sam Grinter (2-41) dismissed both openers, Alfie Barron (10) and Will Mason (8).

The only Glastonbury men to pass 20 were Ross Jenkins (39), Sam Morris (27) and Dan Williams (23), as Thompson (3-20) and Vickery (2-51 plus a run out) caused much of the damage.

The hosts’ 58-run victory handed them 20 points (to Glastonbury’s eight), putting them fifth in the table ahead of a home match with Bishopston 1sts this Saturday (12.30pm).

The Ilminster 2nd XI were destroyed by North Newton’s A. Giradin, who took 8-21 as the visitors were all out for 74.

D. Vining (21) top scored for Ilminster as their bottom five batsmen failed to claim a single run, chasing 173 all out.

L. Knight took 3-23 for the visitors, who are away to Barrington 1sts this weekend.

West of England Somerset Division
North Perrott (297-7) beat Chard (257-6) by 40 runs

CHARD 1st XI suffered their second defeat of the new season away to local rivals North Perrott.

Set a target of 297, the visitors fell 40 runs short and so picked up eight points to the hosts’ 18.

North Perrott won the toss and opted to bat first, with openers Gordon Whorlow and George Retter reaching 52 before both falling in quick succession.

Troy Johnson came in and scored 66, but the outstanding display was by Alex Eckland (79*).

With useful lower-order contributions from Johnny Ireland (23) and Joshua Marshall-James (24*), the home side reached an imposing total of 297-7.

Chard’s top wicket-takers were Chris Scott (3-47) and Jonathan Scott (2-65).

The visitors’ reply got off to a poor start as Robert Glentworth went for a duck and Nathan Warren soon followed to leave Chard on 8-2.

Matthew Micale (52) and Pete Moxom (38) rebuilt the innings, before a sensational 110* off 95 balls (11 fours) from Jon Dalwood.

But Dalwood’s stellar knock and Chris Scott’s 19 were not quite enough, as Chard ran out of overs to drop short by 40 runs.

The six wickets were claimed by six different bowlers, with Stacy Hawes finishing on 1-26.

Chard (15 points) sit eighth in the Somerset Division after two games, while North Perrott are second on 37 points having won two from two.
