BRIDGWATER Town manager Phil Hucker described his side's performance in Saturday's 3-0 defeat to Barnstaple Town as "the most disappointing" of his time at the club so far.

After several weeks of battling displays in which the Robins have been unfortunate not to pick up points, they could have no complaints on Saturday having been thoroughly outplayed by their visitors from North Devon.

"It was very disappointing - we just didn't get out the blocks at all," Hucker said.

“We didn’t do what we’ve been doing in the last few weeks – we weren’t winning second balls, we weren’t threatening in attack, we didn’t work hard enough off the ball and it was just a very disappointing performance by all of us."

The hosts were always up against it after Ryan Turner broke the deadlock after just three minutes, which particularly frustrated the manager.

“The game plan went out the window when they scored early doors – we’re bottom of the league so when you go behind it makes it very difficult with the confidence.

"We fought back into it and had some good play but got undone by a bad goal to give away.

“I thought their second was a foul on the keeper but I don’t make those decisions.

"I didn’t think it was a goal, 99% of the time those go for you but when you’re bottom everything goes against you and that’s what’s happening."

Despite Hucker's grievances over the nature of the second goal, he had no such arguments with Jake Horsey's late sending off.

“It was a fair red card, he's the last defender and he’s lunged in so I’ve got no quibbles over that," he said.

Hucker added: “In the second half they totally dominated us, we didn’t really get close enough to the ball and just looked totally disjointed and disorganised, so it’s back to the drawing board on Tuesday at training."

"I don't know why it was so flat, we only changed one player, but the next 48 hours between now and training I’ll work on it and make sure we go again and we’re ready for next weekend.

"It was the most disappointing display since I've been here without a doubt, but we’ll roll our sleeves up and we’ll go again next week.

"We’re certainly not going to give up on it and we’re going to keep believing, there’s enough points still to play for."
