Somerset County League Division One
Claremont 50, Paulton Vipers 33
GALMINGTON’S Claremont maintained their unbeaten record and moved a step closer to promotion to the Premier Division with an excellent victory over a spirited Vipers of Paulton team at Taunton Vale on Saturday.
Claremont started strongly and opened up a good 11-5 lead in the first quarter.
Half-time arrived after an even second quarter with Claremont leading 20-13, but they began to take control thereafter with goal keeper Jess Hewitt dominant.
With wing attack Kerry Nelson consistently finding her shooters with a series of accurate passes, Claremont pulled away in the final period for a 50-33 win.
Victory at home to Sydenham Sapphires on Saturday will secure an immediate return to the Premier Division with three games still remaining.
Somerset County League Division One
Parkfield 37, Neptune 37
PARKFIELD played host to Bridgwater’s Neptune and a tight first quarter ended with Parkfield leading narrowly 10-8.
There wasn’t much between the teams but Parkfield just had the edge and increased their advantage to 21-17 at half-time.
The third quarter saw Neptune ride their luck and they went into the last quarter 29-27 ahead.
Neptune then went four goals in front but Parkfield kept their discipline and their focus with Becca Brunt strong in mid-court and Anna Kennedy solid in defence.
They gradually reduced the arrears and levelled the score in the closing seconds to secure a draw that they thoroughly deserved.
