MIDDLEZOY FC's father and son management duo, Johnny and Dave Warren, have stepped down from their positions with immediate effect.

Warren Snr took charge back in 2010 and led the club to the final of the Somerset Junior Cup in his first full season in charge.

A single goal defeat to Freshford United meant he would have to wait until the following season to collect the first trophy of his reign.

Warren's side won the Taunton and District League in 2011-12, before the club was accepted into Somerset County League Division Two a few months later.

Promotion followed in the very next season as the team finished their debut season in second place behind champions Congresbury.

This season also featured a Senior Cup run to the semi-final, which included the scalp of Bridgwater Town Reserves in the first ever competitive fixture between the sides, before they lost to eventual winners Wincanton Town.

A hat-trick of promotions almost followed in 2013-14, but Middlezoy missed out on a place in the Premier Division by three points following a disappointing run of results in the closing stages of the season.

In 2014-15 Warren and his assistant Phil Hartley led the team even closer to promotion, eventually missing out on goal difference on the final day.

Again it was semi-final heartache in the Senior Cup and again it was the eventual winners, this time Frys Club, who knocked them out.

In the summer of 2015 Warren Jnr stepped up to the first team to assist his father following the departure of Hartley.

A dream season saw the team go an entire league campaign unbeaten to win the Division One title by 18 clear points.

Such was their dominance that the championship was sealed with five fixtures still left to play with a three goal win at Portishead.

This season has been one of mixed fortunes for the team and the management, but they depart having guided Middlezoy to a respectable fifth place in the league collecting 44 points from 25 league games.

The job has been handed over to Craig Berry, former player and third team manager.

The departing duo were quick wish their successor good luck: "Very best of luck to Craig moving forward and hopefully he will be able to continue the positive progress in the next chapter of the club's history.

"We feel like now is a good point for him to take over and to implement any changes he may wish to prior to next season.

"Thanks to the players and the club for giving us both the opportunity to work together and to enjoy incredible success recently, something which we will both look back on with fond memories."
