AFC Totton are the next side to try to halt the winning run of Taunton Town, who are looking for their ninth consecutive victory tomorrow (ko 3pm).

The Peacocks overcame Bideford 4-2 on Monday with Jordan Rogers (2), Owen Irish and Ross Staley scoring the goals.

Manager Leigh Robinson said afterwards: "Overall we weren't physically at our best today.

"You could see the Christmas period had affected the players' rhythm a little bit as we've become used to playing more games, but hopefully today has helped us get over that and we'll be sharper on Saturday."

Town will be looking to complete the double over Totton, having won 3-1 away at the Testwood Stadium on December 13.

Victory at the Viridor against the side 20th in the table would also help them to continue closing in on the playoff places - they sit seventh but hold games in hand over all the teams above them due to this season's cup exploits.

Also this weekend, Bishops Lydeard host Welton Rovers and Wellington entertain Bishop Sutton in the Toolstation Western League First Division (both ko 3pm).

Wellington head into 2017 with a real chance of promotion to the Western League’s Premier Division.

Team boss Clive Jones has masterminded a first half to the season which sees his side sitting top of the First Division, three points ahead of second-placed Keynsham Town, with a game in hand.

With 17 games to go and a small squad, managing to keep free of injuries is the key to success in a tight division.

Wellington re-open their programme tomorrow with the visit of lowly Bishop Sutton.

Left-back Jack Porter is unavailable for the rest of the season owing to work commitments but the versatile Mitch Woodgate returns and will probably slot into the vacant role.

Jones said: “The division is very tight and the lads have not been in this position before.

“They have to commit themselves for the next 17 games, which are all massive - and I know they will.”

Bishops Lydeard will have to dust themselves down after their 4-1 defeat at Wellington on Boxing Day and continue what otherwise has been a tremendous first season in the Western League.

They are at home to lowly Welton Rovers tomorrow, looking to consolidate their top-half position.

In the Somerset League’s Premier Division, Staplegrove will be confident of extending their 100 per cent home record after completing the double over second-placed Watchet and winning away to Wells City Reserves.

Tomorrow they will be tested by the visit of former champions Shirehampton (ko 2pm).

1610 Taunton United, meanwhile, are in Division 2 Cup action at Burnham United Reserves (ko 2pm).
