Yate Town 1 Taunton Town 5

IN the end it was comfortable for Taunton as they made it six points and eight goals in four days following their foggy trip to Yate Town on Tuesday night.

But for moments either side of the break it looked as though the match could be slipping away, despite they having completely dominated.

Jordan Rogers and Matt Wright terrorised the home defence, including ex-Town man Charlie Hitchings and could only have wondered how they went in at half-time scoreless, but when Rogers gave it best and limped off with a tweaked knee on the half hour, for a while the balance shifted.

Yate sensed a chance and took the lead just after the break but boss Leigh Robinson changed the game once more as substitute Adam Kelly made four goals in a crazy spell and Town were home and hosed.

Without the unavailable Ed Palmer and injured Matt Villis, Robinson again had Alex Hoyle in the side with Craig Veal and Kelly on the bench but an hour before kick-off the fog, which did for matches at Paulton and Weymouth, threatened to make the whole thing academic.

Home keeper Jono Brown knew almost immediately he was in for a torrid night as Pierce Mitchell’s cross found Rogers who missed with an air shot then hit the bar with a header from Matt Buse’s free-kick. Shane White poked the rebound goalwards but it was hacked away and the home defence survived.

Mitchell then set up Wright who nodded over before a shot of his own was saved on 22 minutes. Yate’s first meaningful attack saw Mitch Tippins and Luke Bryan set up Sacha Tong but his shot was weak.

Buse had a shot deflected wide after good work from Brett Trowbridge and Ollie Chamberlain but by then Rogers was struggling and he was replaced by Veal.

Chamberlain volleyed over and Veal shot over following the best move of the half but the frustration was all too apparent at the break.

Yate began well and enjoyed their best spell and it was perhaps no surprise when Ciaran Greening launched a huge free-kick towards Bryan who thrashed it past Irish four minutes into the half.

Town replied with Wright’s header cleared off the line and Veal hitting the rebound over then when a fine move involving Chamberlain and Mitchell ended with Trowbridge being tripped in the box just short of the hour, White hammered home the spot-kick.

Kelly then replaced Buse and from then on it was a procession as Kelly’s free-kick was nodded in by Veal and five minutes later another Kelly cross was headed home by Wright.

Ten minutes from time Kelly found Wright who drilled the fourth under Brown and two minutes later another Kelly free-kick gave White his second for the Nap hand.
