WESTONZOYLAND have leapt up to third place in Division 1 of the Taunton & District Saturday league in the standings after trouncing derby rivals Middlezoy Rovers Reserves 6-0 at home, writes Matt Whelan.

James Millard, Jack Millard and Matt Evans all found the net twice for Middlezoy, who will feel they can also challenge for the title after a good start to the season.

Alcombe Rovers are showing clear intentions of their title ambitions, as they made it five wins from five in the division.

They made light work of their fellow West Somerset hosts, Porlock, who occupy bottom spot of the division, with a thumping 6-1 victory.

Adam Jefferies now has six goals this season, as he added a hat-trick to the tally after a fine performance.

There were single efforts for Lee Todd, Zac Brown and Ryan Wilkins for Alcombe, whose only disappointment on the day was to concede a goal; their only one so far in the cam- paign.

It looks like a two-horse race for the title as reigning champions Bridgwater Sports keep up the pressure on Alcombe.

Sports’ latest 2-1 triumph over Bishops Lydeard Reserves means they hold on to their own 100 per cent record.

Keir Meaker and club top goalscorer Matthew Fursland struck for Sports, who trail first place by three points with a game to spare.

Jack Kelly hit a consolation for Lydeard.

After incurring three straight defeats at the beginning of their campaign, things are now looking up for Morganians who made it two wins on the bounce.

Their latest was a 4-2 success at last season’s runner- up The Gallery.

Liam Gilbert, Jake Crocker, Ben Dennison and Jon Harriott all got on the scoresheet for Morganians, who climb to fourth.

In the only game in Division 3, Galmington Dragons jump three places to second after a destructive 9-3 win at Exmoor Rangers.

Tom Wadham has now scored a remarkable 20 goals in just five ap- pearances, as he notched a hat-trick for his Hamilton Athletic Foxes in Division 4.

Thanks to Tom’s goals, they ran out 3-1 winners against Bridgwater Colts - a result which lifts Hamilton to the top of the league.

The final fixture of the day saw Staplegrove Colts rally to a 5-2 victory at Highbridge Town Reserves.
