THE Newton Cup, a three ball better ball competition, attracted 43 teams at Taunton and Pickeridge on Saturday.

At the end of what was a keenly-contested round it was Pete Scarratt, John Brock and Kelvin Oxley who emerged as the winners with 82 points.

Just one point behind were Jeff Dyke, David Potter and Clive Hardy who took second spot, Adam Johnson, John Snell and Steve Coomber were third on 77 while Bai- ley Langford, Martin Sawyer and Keiron Hector were fourth with 76, On Sunday, the Captain / Professional and Vice-Cap- tain / Assistant Professional trophies were presented.

These challenge matches take place from April to October and allow two members to challenge the Captain/Pro or Vice-Captain/Asst Pro.

These days are always great fun and a wonderful way for club professional Simon Stevenson and his assistant Chris Wyatt to get to know the members and enjoy a round of golf with them.

T&P captain John Snell and the club professional were only defeated once and that was by Jim Crummey and Joe Knowles, who the were the 2016 winners.

Vice-Captain Phil King and assistant professional Chris Wyatt were beaten by winners David Powell and Jon Hutt.

The curtain came down on another T and P Seniors season with a match against East Devon which the visitors ran out the winners by 3½-2½.

T&P Seniors representative Clive Puttock said: “All in all, it has been a good season played in the right spirit and enjoyed by all.
