PEACOCKS boss Leigh Robinson was pleased with the response he got from his players as they brushed side of one of the Southern League Division One South & West title favourites Salisbury at the Viridor Stadium.

Taunton went into the game on the back of their 1-0 home defeat by Barnstaple on Tuesday night – but responded with a fully-deserved 3-1 win over Steve Claridge’s side.

“It was a great result, especially after such a disappointment on Tuesday,” said Robinson.

“I thought that, other than maybe a short spell at the start of the second half, we definitely deserved to win the game and created an awful lot of good chances.

“We should perhaps have finished those chances better, but it was a very welcome three points and now we move on to a hard game on Tuesday night at Wimborne now.”

Matt Wright put Taunton in front on 31 minutes and, in truth, they should have been out of sight by the break as they missed a host of chances; Jordan Rogers, in particular, will feel he should have done better as he fired after from close range before Wright struck.

Salisbury got themselves back level on 56 minutes when Tommy Wright headed home from a Lewis Benson corner.

The visitors then enjoyed a decent spell with Town keeper Lloyd Irish needing to pull off a smart stop to deny Wright again shortly afterwards.

However, fortunately, earlier missed chances would not cost Town as they went back in front on 67 minutes through Adam Kelly – before sub Craig Veal added a third late on.

Robinson continued: “We had so many chances leading up to their equaliser; that was a blow as I think it was one of their first efforts on goal.

“But the lads responded well at that point and their heads didn’t go down.

“We asked for a big response after Tuesday and that’s what we got.”

On his side’s start to the campaign, that has seen them win two from their first three matches, Robinson added: “It’s been an interesting first week.

“We’ve a little bit hot and cold but, as I said in the week, people have got to remember that this is a very new side where we’re trying to introduce five or six new players.

“Our pre-season was quite disjointed as well and nights like Tuesday are disappointing.

“But through the season every team is going to have disappointments, it’s going to happen all the time.

“It’s about how well you react and we reacted well today.”
