TAUNTON Deane continued their winning start to the WEPL Bristol and Somerset season with a 38-run victory over Ilminster on Saturday.

Jack Fraser backed up last week's impressive display with another match-winning performance, scoring 80 at the top of the Deane order before taking 2-36 from ten overs.

Fraser, along with Lorenzo Machado (81) helped Deane to 226-8 from their 50 overs, with Sam Shaikh also adding 25.

Sam Grinter (3-46) was the pick of the Ilminster attack.

Henry Mellor then starred with the ball for Deane, taking 4-30 and removing Ilminster's top three, including the dangerous Louis Kraucamp.

He was backed up by Rob Pryke (3-42) and Russell Jones (1-7) as Ilminster crumbled to 188 all out inside 46 overs.

Craig Rice (45no) and Sam Spurway (35) and Harry Montacute (26) were the only batsman to put up a fight.

In Premier One, it was a bad day at the office for Taunton St Andrews who slumped to a 207-run defeat at newly-promoted Potterne.

The Wiltshire side batted first at their small and picturesque ground, and despite the best efforts of Lloyd Alley (4-57), amassed 253-5 thanks to a sparkling century from opener Thomas Cullen (103).

Sajan Wijerathne (90) hit five fours and one six in his well compiled knock, while some late hitting from Ed Young (25) took the home side past the 250-mark.

In reply, not one Saints player made it into double figures as they were rolled for just 46 inside 25 overs.

Josh Horle and Kevin Parsons (both eight) top scored for the visitors, while Potterne's Dylan Higgins returned remarkable figures of 8-17 from ten overs.

Ed Young (2-3) took the final two wickets to fall.

Elsewhere in Premier One, Taunton CC suffered a 79-run defeat at Bristol after the home side posted 301-6 batting first.

Ben Orr (2-51) and Sam Puddy (2-68) took two wickets apiece for Taunton, but half centuries from James Bracey (79), Ralph Hardwick (56) and Jake Kings (55no) saw Bristol put a strong score on the board.

Jack Cooper backed up last weekend's 97 with a quickfire 46 to put his side in a good position, but after he was dismissed, only Sam Puddy (43) and Bradley Lynch (36) really got going as Taunton's chase was brought to a halt.

Dan Jones (6-52) did the damage for Bristol and Taunton were 222 all out.

In WEPL Somerset Division, Ian Masters took 4-33 for Staplegrove, but it wasn't enough to prevent them from crashing to a 58-run defeat at North Petherton.

Masters miserly spell helped Grove restrict Pethy to 183-9 from their 50 overs, with Ryan Cleverly (3-35) and Matthew Dimond (2-21) also in the wickets.

But only four Staplegrove players made it into double figures and they were bowled out for 125 in the 42nd over.

Ian Masters (31) followed up his bowling exploits with his side's top score and Paul Hardy was left stranded on 22 not out.
