Southern League Division One S&W

Taunton Town 3 Marlow 0

TAUNTON Town kept themselves in the hunt for the Evo-Stik League South and West Division title with a comfortable 3-0 victory over Marlow at the Viridor Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The win secured Town their eighth league double of the season and was never really in doubt from the moment they grabbed a 10th minute lead.

Jordan Rogers' header from a Dale Evans free-kick was bundled out by Marlow keeper Simon Grant and from the ensuing Evans corner skipper Jamie Price convincingly headed home at the back post.

The advantage was doubled on 27 minutes when Charlie Hitchings' long ball forward was nodded on by Rogers, releasing Craig Veal to lob over Grant and run through to make sure into the unguarded net.

Owen Irish headed an Evans free kick over before Veal came close to his second when good play from Rogers and Ollie Chamberlain set him up for a shot which was blocked, with his follow-up skimming the crossbar as it went over.

Veal then curled an effort just over the angle of the woodwork and also missed a decent opportunity when he fired over the target after the ball had run loose following Chamberlain's challenge for Rogers' flick.

Marlow who looked lively in spells but created little enjoyed their best phase of the match in the early part of the second half.

Chris Ovenden curled a shot onto the roof of the net and Jordan Brown planted another attempt over the top.

However, after Rogers had prodded Veal's centre wide, Town made it 3-0 on 62 minutes when Rogers' drive was parried by Grant and Josh Searle blasted in the rebound from the left side of the box.

Assistant manager Michael Meaker made a rare appearance and might have got on the scoresheet had Rogers been able to pick him out with his cross.

Jordace Holder-Spooner fired wide for the visitors after a good run but the game generally petered out, leaving job done for Town who now prepare for Tuesday's showdown with leaders Cinderford Town.
