Sydenham Rubies 24 Walton 43

SYDENHAM Rubies were well-beaten by Walton on Saturday, going down by 19 points.

With a complete mix up of the team, Rubies unfortunately took a while to settle in to playing with each other - although there was some brilliant defending in the circle from Katy Tasker and Rachel Lawrance.

In the second quarter, Rubies picked up the tempo and the game started to flow better, with the ball moving up the court from the centre court players, Steph Riordan, Kerry Clark and Grace Morris.

The score at half-time was 19-13 to Walton.

The third quarter saw Walton start to pull away, although there was brilliant play from the shooting circle, namely from Tilly Milburn and Nic Hale.

The final score was 43-24 to Walton, which was disappointing for Rubies who had all put in 100% effort, knowing that the score didn’t reflect the game play.

Player and umpires player went to Rachel Lawrance and Kerry Clark.

Emeralds 23 Spears 44

EMERALDS suffered a 21-point defeat at the hands of Spears on Saturday, losing out 44-23.

Emeralds starting well with positive passing and the quarter ended 10-6 to Spears.

A slight change in defence and brilliant interceptions from Paige Currie meant Emeralds put the pressure on Spears, ending the second quarter 16-21.

The third quarter saw another change, but with poor passing and strong defence from Spears, they put pressure on the Emeralds shooters to turn the ball over as Spears pulled away.

In the fourth quarter and with a nothing to lose attitude, Emeralds started to claw back the deficit - but time ran out and the score ended 44-23 to Spears. Player vote was shared between Hannah and Paige.
