BRIDGWATER Town will be hoping to book their place in the first qualifying round of the FA Trophy when take on Didcot Town in a preliminary round replay at Fairfax Park tonight (Tuesday).

The sides played out a goalless draw on Saturday to set up tonight’s showdown, where the Robins will be hoping to make it three games unbeaten.

The winner of tonight’s clash will travel to Ryman League Division South side, Molesey in the first qualifying round on Saturday, October 31.

It was Didcot who went closest to opening the scoring on four minutes when Adam Learoyd headed against the post from Josh Dutton-Black’s corner.

Dutton-Black was then left to rue his own missed chance on ten minutes, when he shot wide having been sent clear by a neat through ball.

The midfielder continued to trouble Bridgwater and almost turned provider once again, when his cross was directed wide by Jack Longford.

Bridgwater’s best chance fell to Josh Wadham, who attempted to lob Leigh Bedwell, only to see his effort drift over the bar.

Didcot’s Janes had yet another chance to give the hosts the lead but was yet again denied by Viney – and Bridgwater should have taken a half-time lead when Reeko Best got in behind the Didcot defence, but he dragged his effort wide of the upright.

The second-half turned into a rather drab affair, with neither side able to find any sort of rhythm.

Bridgwater grew in confidence but the game had become scrappy and disjointed.

Didcot had a penalty appeal turned down with five minutes left to play, before the referee brought an end to proceedings.

The replay kicks off at 7.45pm at Fairfax Park.

BRIDGWATER Town have signed Joey Fitzsimmons from Rhode Lane Wanderers, after impressing manager Paul West in a friendly against Town two weeks ago.

Paul West said: “This is a great opportunity for the lad and a huge leap up the leagues - however I think he showed great promise and now is the chance for him to shine.”
