BURNHAM BMX star Liam Phillips has secured victory in round three of the UCI BMX Supercross World Cup.

Phillips, 26, also won each of his heats prior to the final, where a strong start again inspired him to first place in Angelholm, Sweden.

Australia's Bodi Turner finished second, with his compatriot Sam Willoughby in third.

With 505 points, Phillips, the defending series champion, is first in the elite men's standings.

The win was his first on an outdoor track at the World Cup: his previous three were in Manchester.

He said: "It feels unbelievable - I have struggled to find a win outdoors.

“It has been something that has been high on my agenda for at least the past 18 months, two years. It feels great.

"It goes some way to making up for the worlds [championships]. I knew I was in great shape but things don't always work out the way you would like.

"I just want to thank my coach, Grant [White], we are in this together.

“He puts in more hours than I do to make sure things come together on race day."

Kyle Evans was eliminated at the quarter-final stage, Quillan Isidore in the motos, and Tre Whyte during qualifying on Saturday. In the women's competition, Charlotte Green was also eliminated during the motos.

The series' final two rounds are scheduled to take place in Santiago del Estero, Argentina, and Rock Hill, USA.
