Somerset County Premier
Berrow 3, Chilcompton Sports 2
BERROW bounced back from last week’s disappointing result with a win over newly promoted Chilcompton Sports.
The hosts’ performance made them good value for a point last week, but this week was the polar opposite as they took all three points with a sluggish, unconvincing display.
Being virtually at full strength Berrow were in confident mood to register their first win and they started the brighter of the two teams but were unable to create a clear opening.
The visitors took the lead when a series of half hearted challenges lead to a virtually unchallenged shot on the edge of the box that found the bottom corner of the Berrow goal.
Berrow responded well and Jack Taylor quickly picked up from where he left off last season with a quick two goal salvo, Simon Slocombe the provider both times.
The first racing on to a well weighted through ball and beating the keeper, the second finding space to nod home a long throw.
Berrow became sloppy after taking the lead and were somewhat fortunate to go in at half time with it still intact.
The second-half saw slight improvement, but the visitors took the lead again when Berrow failed to clear their lines.
Berrow then introduced Dan Rosser for his debut off the bench and this proved to be the pivotal moment.
From a half cleared Berrow corner, Rosser picked the ball up and smashed a superb strike from the edge of the box that found the top right hand corner of the goal.
Chilcompton came back at Berrow but were unable to find another equaliser.
