ENMORE Park won the bragging rights in the local derby with Taunton & Pickeridge at the weekend.

The teams were led, coincidentally, by two players whose careers with HSBC Bank stretched to a combined total of 78 years, Rob Fear and his former colleague, Mike Crump.

Their game, with partners Duncan Bagshaw and John Snell respectively, was closely fought resulting in honours even.

However, wins from MacLennan and Kelly, Brown and Henson, Hoar and Lynn - and Wilson and Sykes secured a 5-2 victory for Enmore, helped by Rob Loder making a tricky putt on the last to salvage a half in his game.

The return match is at Pickeridge at the end of September.

Enmore Park seniors had a busy week of golf with the Seniors championship followed by two away fixtures at Saunton and Clevedon.

The championship was won by Mike Richardson with an excellent nett score of 65, second was last year's winner, Barrie Webster on 70 and third place went to Roger Anniss with 71.

The less said about the long trip to Saunton the better.

Playing for the Len Slocombe trophy, presented by Enmore veteran Merv Slocombe in memory of his father, Enmore suffered an eight matches to none whitewash.

The trip to Clevedon was a little better - played in glorious sunny weather Enmore at least managed to register on the score sheet but finished on the wrong side of a six matches to two result.

The two Davids, Pascoe and Brown, won by 2 and 1, whilst Jim Symcox and Dave Capron along with John Earp and Ray Hancock both gained half points.

In the Ladies Club Championship, Judy Hancock won the Championship and Biddiscombe Cup (gross 36 holes) by 10 shots on what was a testing day of golf with strong winds and showers. Runner-up was June Symcox with Megan Dennett four shots further back in third.

The Brown Trophy is for ladies playing 18 holes on championship day and for best nett, it was a very close contest.

Julie Stafford was victorious on a nett 74 beating Carol Robinson on countback and three ladies recording nett 75s.

Michael Richardson won the Seniors' Club Championship with a nett 65 after rediscovering his form folllowing a hard day's practice.

His score was five better than runner-up Barrie Webster and Michael also shot the best gross with an 82.

Trevor Hutter had a lucrative day with the only two of the day on the 15th.
