DAN Tippetts struck an unbeaten century for Huntspill and District as they thrashed Cheddar by 164 runs in Division 9NW of the Somerset Cricket League.

Tippetts scored exactly 100 not out in Huntspill’s total of 249-5, while K. Jefferies (72) provided good support at the other end.

Defending an impressive total, L. Wright tore through the Cheddar top order to return figures of 5-18 from six overs – and there was two wickets apiece for Tippetts (2-8) and R. Edwards (2-4).

K. Dibble (1-22) took the other wicket as Cheddar were bowled out for just 85 inside 22 overs.

Elsewhere in Division 9NW, East Huntspill 2nd XI were beaten by seven wickets by Uphill Castle Crusaders after a top order batting collapse left the hosts needing just 165 to win.

B. Gowan (41) and H. Dare (27no) top scored for Easts, but E. Bliss (106no) guided Uphill to a comfortable win.

W. Hand (1-67), J. Picton (1-12) and B. Gowan (1-31) were the wicket takers for Easts, who find themselves second from bottom in the division.

In Division Three, Lympsham beat Huntspill and District by just one run in a thrilling local derby.

Lympsham batted first and were all out for 150, with three wickets apiece for C. Organ (3-33), D. Counsell (3-27) and T. Garner (3-10).

Hayden Tuttiett top scored for Lympsham with 46.

In reply, Huntspill looked to be on course for victory as D. Cavill (21), S. Lillycrop (45) and T. Garner (34) got the innings off to a great start.

But the introduction of J. Froud (5-26), together with the bowling of J. Luff (3-38) swung the game back in Lympsham’s favour – and with one wicket or two runs required for victory, A. Mickelwright (1-42) stepped up to seal the win for the home side.

In Division Four, it was an afternoon to forget for Wedmore who crashed to a five-wicket defeat at the hands of Staplegrove 2nd XI.

Batting first, Wedmore were bowled out for just 57 as only three players made it into double figures - M. Boley (14), S. Morris (11) and D. Haining (11).

M. Quick (6-17) and D. Bailey (4-24) did the damage for Grove, sharing ten wickets between them.

Despite being bowled out in just 24.5 overs, Wedmore refused to go down without a fight and took five Staplegrove wickets before eventually succumbing to defeat.

A. Petters (4-15) and B. Halford (1-17) made the inroads for Wedmore, but they were always fighting a losing battle with just 57 on the board.

Wedmore 2nd XI suffered an eight-wicket defeat at Watchet 2nd XI in Division 8N in a one-sided affair.

R. Gamlin (40) and M. Lee (43) top scored in Wedmore’s total of 150 all out – and Watchet had little trouble in reply, cruising home inside 31 overs thanks to 59 not out from E. Jeromson.
