Burnham 251 lost to Ilton 252-7 by three wickets

BURNHAM were left to rue their batsmen's inability to cash in on good starts after going down by three wickets at Ilton on Saturday.

Five Burnham batsmen passed 20 as they posted 251 when batting first - but no player made more than 32, while extras accounted for 50 of the total.

D Worthington was the top scorer for the visitors, while there were starts for Toby Keast (30), Brad House (27), Pete Harris (25) and Jim Bloodworth (25).

Despite noone cashing in on their starts, Burnham were still able to post a highly competitive total from their 45 overs - R Jones (3-34) and B Venn (3-59) were the pick of the Ilton bowlers.

In reply, Burnham made three early breakthroughs courtesy of the ever-reliable Brian Brogden (3-43) and Rob Driver (1-36).

Ilton's R Jones (36) and D Price (44) rebuilt the earlier damage with a solid fourth wicket partnership - and when the pair were dismissed, J Devonshire (53) and L Brown (41) picked up where they had left off to drive Ilton towards victory.

Pete Harris (1-39), Toby Keast (1-80) and J Harding (1-46) picked up a wicket apiece for Burnham, but the hosts edged home with one over remaining, thanks to a late assault from M Vickery (37no).

Burnham host East Coker on Saturday, before travelling to North Newton the following week.
