Somerset Cricket League Division Five
East Huntspill 78-4 beat Weston-super-Mare 77 by six wickets
EAST Huntspill cruised to a six-wicket thrashing of Weston-super-Mare 3rd XI thanks to fine bowling display from Rob Pomeroy.
Pomeroy took 5-24 from nine overs as the visitors were skittled for just 77 batting first.
Ian Cooke (2-2) conceded just two runs from 7.1 overs, including five maidens, while Herbie Dare (2-15) and Kevin Crennol (1-16) accounted for the other five wickets.
Just two Weston players – T Ahmed (22) and R Crocker (17) - made it into double figures, as the visitors failed to fend off a rampant Easts attack.
Despite the low score, Weston’s innings lasted 44.1 overs, a run rate of less than two runs per over – including 16 maidens.
East Huntspill found the going a lot easier in reply, despite losing Kev Butt early on to the bowling of G Tulip (1-15).
Nigel Hodge (16) and Andrew Chedzey (26) moved things forward with a couple of well-timed boundaries, as the hosts eased towards victory.
Rob Pomeroy added just one before falling to D Henry (3-9) – and when Chedzey departed to the same bowler, it was left to Darren West (6no) and Jon Picton (16no) to see Easts home in 21 overs and move them up to second place in Division Five – ten points behind leaders Peasedown St John.
East Huntspill are without a fixture for the next two weekends and are next in action on August 1, away to Baltonsborough.
