THE Somerset Rebels home win over the Rye House Rockets last Friday night not only increased their lead at the top of the Premier League table, but it also saw the Rebels extend their unbeaten home run in official meetings to 50 matches.

The Rebels’ last home reversal came back on June 11, 2013 – and Friday night’s match was one befitting the Rebels clocking up that half-century landmark, with it being probably one of the greatest-ever meetings to have graced the Oaktree Arena.

The action was breathtaking with heat 13 providing four laps of stunning action which will live long in the memories of all those fortunate enough to have witnessed it.

Somerset team manager Garry May said: “The match certainly ticked all the boxes - not only did we come back from a first half deficit to win the meeting and deny Rye House any points, but the fans were treated a match of breath-taking action, on top of which we stretched our unbeaten home record to that 50 meeting mark.

“What more could you ask for from a match?”

Sunday evening saw Somerset travel North-East to face the Newcastle Diamonds - and the Rebels ended a perfect weekend with a 48-42 victory at the Newcastle Stadium, to further increase their lead at the top of the Premier League table.

Garry May said: “We came to Newcastle looking to get points from this match and the boys really came up trumps.

“Every one of them rode their socks off tonight and even when Newcastle closed us down going into the final heat I just knew that Josh and Richie would do the business for us and get those three league points.

“It might now be a long drive home from here, but that journey will be all the sweeter thanks to another tremendous team performance by the boys.”

The Rebels have no home meeting tomorrow with their next home match at the Oaktree Arena being against Workington on June 19.
