Somerset County Division One West

St George Easton in Gordano 1, Burnham United 2

GOALS from Anthony Cleave and Russ Holley ensured Burnham United finished the season in winning ways with a hard-fought victory over eighth-place St George Easton in Gordano.

Ed Lamb put in a man of the match display for United, who finished the season in tenth place in Somerset Division One West, having won seven of their 26 games.

It was a strong finish to the season for United, with only two defeats in last nine games - both of which were away to promoted sides.

Burnham United Reserves were beaten 2-0 by Nailsea United Reserves to ensure they finish the Division Two West season second from bottom.

The Reserves won just five of their 26 league games with a very young side, but also finished the season strongly – winning three of their final six games.

Elsewhere in league football, Berrow Reserves suffered a 6-1 defeat at champions Tickenham United in Division One of the Weston and District Football League.

In Division Three, Wedmore toppled second-place Wrington Redhill Reserves.

Wedmore can now guarantee at least a third place finish if they beat Banwell reserves this weekend.

In Division Three, Shipham suffered a 3-1 defeat to Banwell Reserves, while in Division Five, Shipham Athletic were 6-1 winners at home to Congresbury A.

Next weekend sees the final fixtures of the season being played, with the finals of the Keyes Cup and Atwell Shield set to take place at Weston St Johns FC.
