Somerset Two South

Burnham II 12, Tor 44

BURNHAM II signed off the season in disappointing fashion with a heavy defeat to Tor.

Tor began in dominant fashion before Burnham settled down and began to play some good rugby.

As the half progressed Tor maintained the pressure - a try saving tackle by Tim James saw him sidelined with an injury with George Willcox stepping into the firing line.

Mat Mitchell, on his come back from injury, went off with his place being taken by Jake Harding who continued service as usual - and despite the score, Tor were not having it all their own way.

Before the half ended, Nathan Smith broke through and crossed for an unconverted try.

This was a well-deserved score as the backs had been threatening with considerable pressure for some time.

On resumption it seemed like a new Tor side had emerged, but it was Burnham who retaliated fiercely again.

The Tor defence was tested, with the Burnham forwards recycling ball from the loose.

In the backs, Conway, Shaw and Smith were threatening when given the ball in space - but it was the sheer weight of numbers that held the upper hand as Tor were able to get themselves out of trouble.

It was during one sustained phase of pressure involving forwards and backs that Burnham were awarded a penalty try.

Burnham II finished in seventh place in the league, playing 18 games, winning eight, drawing one and losing nine.
