Southern League Division One South

Cinderford Town 0, Bridgwater Town 0

BRIDGWATER Town played out a stalemate in their last away game of the season at Cinderford on Saturday, writes Eddie Robinson.

It finished scoreless in a game in which there was almost no goal-mouth action.

A hard pitch and a strong breeze down the ground combined to prevent the teams playing any constructive football.

David O’Hare and Jack Allward travelled but were unable to play any part through injury.

Bridgwater’s only chance of the first half came after ten minutes - a perceptive through ball from Kyle Tooze found Tom Knighton down the middle but he was unable to control the speeding ball and the chance was lost.

The game was being played almost entirely in a congested midfield and constructive play was at a premium.

Cinderford twice flashed the ball across the face of goal without a home forward able to make contact - and Bridgwater were grateful to Craig Allan for a goal line clearance after Ben John had been drawn from his line, in an attempt to close down an attack on the stroke of half time.

In the second half Cinderford had the better of possession and were on top territorially but too often their crosses were over hit and John was seldom troubled.

Bridgwater didn’t win a single corner throughout the game and in the second half were confined to a couple of breakaways when Tooze and Ollie Chamberlain were denied by good tackles.

Both sets of players worked hard but defenders were very much on top.

Allan and Rudge were very solid in central defence, whilst the tackling of Alex Grimshaw and Jack Welling kept their opponents quiet, on a day when the forwards chased hard but found little reward.

Looking for positives, the result was a big improvement on the four nil drubbing at home and meant that Bridgwater have only lost six of their twenty-one away league games.

Bridgwater: John, Grimshaw, Welling, Allan, Rudge, Robertson, Chamberlain, Byrne, Knighton, Bushin,(McNab 56) Tooze.
